JALT Hokkaido would like to invite you to participate in The JALT Hokkaido Winter Language Conference 2026 – Engagement and Innovation in Language Education.
This year’s theme is engagement and innovation in language education. We are looking for the best methods to encourage student engagement with their English learning in and out of the classroom. ranging from AI to video and gamification platforms, to good old reliable textbooks, game boards, resource books, cards, handouts, innovative use of teaching spaces,tech and everything in between.
Our plenary speaker is Dr. James York, associate professor at Meiji University, Japan. He is also one of the founders of Ludic Language Pedagogy academic society, as well as its Editor in Chief. In addition, he is co-author with Jonathan deHaan of the book Freedom to Play – A Ludic Language pedagogy Primer, which outlines quite clearly and lucidly his main research areas on games and play in education.
The conference is scheduled to begin with registration and a networking event on Saturday, February 14th. Following this, a full schedule of presentations and displays from publishers will take place on Sunday, February 15th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at Hokkai-Gakuen University in Sapporo.
The JALT CALLSIG may also be at the JALT Hokkaido Winter Language Conference 2026 – Engagement and innovation in language education on February 15th.
Our conference has been one of the biggest language teaching conferences in northern Japan for the past 40 years, with average attendance between 80 to 120 attendees and we would like you to be a part of it.
We will prepare a high-traffic exhibition display area with coffee and snacks to guarantee a lot of people will come to see you. Teachers from all over Hokkaido, Japan, and more increasingly, Asia, are eager to come to our conference, and one of the main reasons is to see the latest in educational products from our JALT Sponsors.
