The Teacher Development Special Interest Group (TD SIG) and JALT Hokkaido Chapter would like to invite you to participate in the TD SIG’s annual Teacher Journeys conference in Hokkaido this summer.

The conference brings together practitioners and researchers dedicated to becoming better teachers and helping others teach more effectively. Presenters will share innovative practices and research grounded in professional experiences.

Our plenary speaker is Dr. Gregory Hadley, professor at Niigata University and Visiting Fellow at Oxford University. He has spoken at numerous conferences both in Japan as well as abroad elucidating empirical investigations to improve learning approaches, such as Extensive Reading. With his research in Grounded Theory Methodology, participants of this conference will have the opportunity to examine means of conducting research in meaningful and practical ways within teaching contexts.

The conference is scheduled for Sunday, August 23rd with registration from 9:30am, and presentations from 10:00am to 4:30pm at Hakodate University in Hakodate, Hokkaido. It will be preceded by a networking dinner in Hakodate on Saturday, August 22nd. We are expecting 35 to 60 participants and approximately 12 presentations or workshops, in addition to the plenary. Presentations will take place in two lecture rooms (rooms 181 and 182 or 186, see floor plan on following page) and one large lecture room (room 161).
